Team Hampshire - Short Mat Bowls
The Buccaneers started the ICC season with a tough home game against Kent County SMBA. The match was played in a highly competitive but friendly manner with many matches swinging from one side to the other especially in the first session.
Here's how the session's went:
Session 1 - in the singles both players found themselves down after 11 ends - 8-12 & 6-10 but both rallied winning their last 3 ends & 4 ends respectively to take the matches 16-13 & 16-10.
In the pairs one team won 16-12 whilst the other lost 10-15.
Meaning, Hampshire were winning 6-2 after session 1.
Session 2 saw the triples and fours playing. With both triples winning 17-7 & 10-8, whilst the fours had a win and a loss 10-7 & 4-12.
At half time Hampshire was winning 12-4.
After lunch Session 3 saw Hampshire get 2 wins & 2 defeats. Singles 11-17 & 20-4 with the pairs 26-5 & 9-12. However the 4 bonus points went to Hampshire.
Session 4 started with the teams knowing that one win would guarantee a winning start to the season. However, the triples lost both games 9-13 & 9-15. This meant that one if the fours needed a victory, one of the fours trailing 4-7 after 8 ends manufactured a 7 to turn the game around and win 12-10 whilst the other four won 19-3. With the triples winning the bonus points with a shot difference 45-43 & the fours also winning the bonus points. Team Hampshire - Short Mat Bowls went on to win 28-12, shots 214 - 163.
Well done to everybody that played.

CAEN WIN THE INAUGURAL 6 OF THE BEST!
What a day for Hampshire’s Caen side, as they came out on top in the inaugural 6 of the Best St George’s competition in Dorset today
Hampshire were represented by two strong triples, with Ryan Knight skipping Saul Featherstone — who became an honorary Caen member for the day — and Leah Wood, while David White skipped Steve Buckett and Steve Puttock.
Both triples battled their way through a competitive field, showcasing some excellent short mat bowls throughout the day and doing the Caen and Hampshire name proud.
A fantastic achievement for everyone involved, and a brilliant way to mark the first staging of what promises to become a great competition.
Congratulations to Ryan, Saul, Leah, David, Steve and Steve — 6 of the Best indeed!

A message from your membership Secretary (barbara Sparling):
At this year's AGM (21st May) I stepped back from this post, but Janice Gould will be your Membership Secretary from now on - she will contact each club around the end of August for your affiliations in the usual way.
It has been a priviledge doing this job for around 25 years, but the time has come... as they say!
please be as helpful to her as you have been to me over the years. I'll still be around for any emergencies - but all communication should now be with her.
Thank you. Barbara
